It's been forever. But without further ado, I'll get right back into it. Coming about, oh....4 months late here, it's Whirlwind's birthday post. Finally.
Drum roll please.....

Not about what we're doing, but about how to reflect it all here in this blog. There's so much to catch up on going way back to November, there's what we've been doing lately to report on and then there are other events, unrelated to our specific travels, that have deeply touched our lives. I think what I might try to do right now is catch you up on what is happening right now and The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-1201937707303153392011-06-13T02:13:00.000-06:002011-06-13T02:13:51.837-06:00A lighthouse and a VERY near disaster - Nov. 11th continued & Nov. 12thOn our way back from ferry we made one last stop for the day at the -
That's Cape Hatteras Light Station in case you can't make it out. It's one of three lighthouses on the cape. The most interesting fact about this 'little' lighthouse, to us anyway, is that it was actually physically moved from one location to the another, a total of 2900 feet! I can't believe it, but I seem to have skipped this part of our day back on November 7th and jumped ahead straight to the Wright Brothers in NC. Nov. 11th, 2010Going back to North Carolina now....I know I keep going back and forth between past and present, but that's just the way it goes. It's important to me to make sure I get it all in on the blog even if it was ages ago, that way it's all on record. Sorry 'bout any confusion.

To describe it as difficult would be an understatement. No, he of wasn't a human being, but he was part of our family for over a decade. A decade we spent growing as a unit. A decade in which we welcomed new family members and said good bye to others.
He was the one who comforted me after I lost my Dad. The kids have been waiting and waiting for this day and it was finally here! Ever since we read about them several years ago in the Childhood of Young Americans series there has been tremendous interest in the subject. And we were FINALLY here!!
We made it our very first stop on the Outer Banks (of North Carolina). Our mission here was twofold. November 7th, 2010After a long day in Philly, a long drive 'home' to DC and a good long sleep, we woke up to our final morning in the nation's capital. Too ambitious. We did leave the 'house' bright and early since we were driving to Philly and that was going to take at least 2.5 hours, if not more with traffic. But, alas, there were not going to be enough hours in the day to get to Philly, see the sights, drive to Valley Forge, see the sights, and drive back to DC. In case you missed it or are wondering though, I did explain here the general reason for our 'stagnation' in TX. But really, someone asked me recently if there was anything I wish I had taken with me in the RV that I didn't, and, was there anything I wish I hadn't taken with me. Surprisingly, the answers were easy as pie.
There was only one thing I wish I had brought with me from our stick house that I didn't: The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-63927750644005857212011-02-22T23:39:00.000-07:002011-02-22T23:39:00.384-07:00A birthday boy celebration!Every January we are blessed with celebrating two birthdays, four days apart. Yup, two in one week. Every year. I shared Analyzer's birthday here, back when it actually happened. Due to technical difficulties though Inventor's birthday post has been quite delayed. Nothing like going through 50,000 pictures (literally), again, to throw this together.....Well, let's get The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-62887278803412900342011-02-19T21:09:00.000-07:002011-02-19T21:09:35.199-07:00Home, home on the range.....If home is where you park it, we're home baby!
It's been a wonderful, eventful and well, just full six (eeik!) weeks of staying with friends and family, literally in their houses. But now, we're home again. Not far from said friends and family, but we're in our very own abode.
Time spent with others is rewarding and enjoyable of course and everyone was so gracious, generous, The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-70253605785183741682011-02-11T21:02:00.001-07:002011-02-11T21:03:37.465-07:00Feast or famineOr so it seems.
Why oh why have I been so quiet? Well, we seem to have come to a temporary halt in our trip. Temporary, not to worry. Due to that fact though, I think, the inspiration to sit and report on what we've been doing has up and floated away. For now. As we haven't been doing much. It's a good thing I'm so backed up on our travel log, at least I can The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-81793311079842949582011-01-30T21:53:00.000-07:002011-01-30T21:53:07.013-07:00Little BlueYes, I know. It's been a while. I blame technology and I blame my frustration with it.
I've been trying for what seems like forever to upload Inventor's birthday post but keep running into frustrating 'photo upload errors'. On the agenda today were the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Museum of American History. Ambitious, I know.
Gotta study that map so we know where we're going and what we'll see.
We had come the day after the Day of the Dead celebrations here at the museum but at least we got to see the display.

January 12th, 2011Ten years ago, we looked like this -
Then, She came along -
She, was our miracle and my personal savior.
She, gave me life shortly after my father lost his.
She, carries on his name in her own.
She, lit up our life when we needed it most.
She, lit up their life then,
And continues to do so today,
She was the first fourth generation of women,
She's funny,
Silly,

Much needed I might add.
Turning to the weather for a moment, the first two days we spent here were some of the most humid I've experienced in my life. And I've been through summers in Houston! It wasn't all that hot, in fact, it was even down right chilly those first couple days. But my oh my wasThe Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-41294830657753968562011-01-08T03:38:00.002-07:002011-01-08T03:38:00.150-07:00Money, air and space. October 29th, 2010Well, this morning, we all woke up still very tired. As you can tell. No amount of sleep would have set us straight after yesterday, but we got what we could.
On the agenda today was the all important DC landmark, Target, followed by this all important building
This is the visitor's entrance though.
Not to worry, we got our tickets before that sign went up. Again, The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-81041580312582122262011-01-07T13:29:00.003-07:002011-01-07T14:40:53.469-07:00A day spent in good company, October 28th, 2010
It was only the beginning of our third day in the city and we were already exhausted, first thing in the morning....
It was going to be an *extremely* long day, with lots of pictures......In fact, as I was writing this entry Whirlwind looked at the pictures and said "That was SUCH a long day! Did that day have 300 hours??"
Today was the day we'd 'do' the Washington Mall. One The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-88547648220490115662011-01-05T23:02:00.000-07:002011-01-05T23:12:25.823-07:00Sorry folks.... January 6th, 2011Unfortunately, technical difficulties are keeping me from uploading the next entry. The continuation of our DC trip will have to wait for the moment. It seems I've met my photo limit, which I didn't even know existed....S will try to figure this one out tomorrow and hopefully the solution will not be too painful. Until then I can tell you that at the moment we're enjoying visiting family in The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-74011839369120040622011-01-04T15:30:00.001-07:002011-01-07T12:30:44.856-07:00Natural history, gotta love it. October 27th, 2010Back online again. After two plus weeks (I think) of being totally off the grid, it feels good!
And now, back to our story....
On our second day in DC we tackled the National Museum of Natural History. Yes, another one. Given that we hardly scratched the surface of the one in NY, this stop was certainly a no brainer. Would have been a no brainer anyway for our family The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-21809355149642257902010-12-22T01:19:00.000-07:002010-12-22T01:19:00.433-07:00Heeeellllllooooo D.C.!! October 26th, 2010OK. Wow. We are in D.C.!!! This is another one of those places I've been chomping at the bit to get to with the kids. What a tremendous opportunity for practically everything!!! And it's FREE!! (Well, in theory. More on that in a bit).
Needless to say one can easily spend a month here and still not see it all, but boy were we going to try our darnedest!
Our first goal The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-27663539592953071862010-12-21T03:19:00.001-07:002010-12-21T03:19:00.758-07:00George Washington conquered! October 25th, 2010The time had come to move on. Again. We were leaving NY state and heading towards Washington D.C.!!
But first, there was much packing to be done as we had brought a whole bunch of stuff into the house from the RV. Toys, clothes, books, food, etc. Everyone did their share, even if they themselves were practically the size of the backpack they were carrying....
There The Dorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12223050566755819454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4399715183311077068.post-5473391343434909472010-12-20T03:27:00.003-07:002010-12-20T03:27:00.253-07:00Family, glorious family!
